Let me tell you a great story!
First of all, as an introduction to the story let me write a few words about me. Hi, my name is Branka. It is very nice to meet you virtually, and I hope we will meet in person soon. 🙂
Although I was born in Switzerland, I was raised in Zagreb—the capital of Croatia—by a Peruvian mum and Croatian dad. My deep passion for travel, however, led me to my first job as an adventure outdoor guide in 2007. Of course I immediately fell in love with the role, which I continued in for the next 15 years. Over the years, I have polished my guiding knowledge, upgrading my skills through different courses. I am fluent in English, German and Spanish and recently started learning French. I am a very passionate skier and snowboarder, but also love sea kayaking, hiking, trekking and just being in nature. My favourite trekking destination is Patagonia, especially Chile’s Torres Del Paine National Park.
Now when we have that sorted out, let me tell you the story of Active Nature Tours.
How did the Active Nature story begin?
Back in 2010, I was guiding active & adventure trips in Croatia for different companies like REI Adventures, Backroads, and Natural Habitat Adventures. Of course while I was guiding one of my REI groups, and finishing the extension part in Dubrovnik. Maria, the owner of a Canadian company called Hidden Places was sitting in the same restaurant watching me having the best time at farewell dinner with my guests. Not long after, I got an email from her, and this is what it said: “Dag and I work a lot on intuition. You gave us a good impression, and we have the feeling you would be a great fit as a guide on our Hidden Places trips.”
Dag Goering and Maria Coffey, the founders of company, have been exploring the planet for well over 30 years. The love story continues – they are still exploring the world together, scouting and creating new trips. They have also cultivated a close, tightly-knit network of local experts and trip guides to round out the team — warm, genuine, and fascinating people who have become close friends, and share the same ethics and ideals.
So, after more than 10 years of successfully guiding trips it was time to start my own company and create trips visiting the most beautiful areas in the world partnering with the local experts trusted by Maria.
